“All of the ladies come over to see Marge’s new Westinghouse refrigerator”
Back in the ancient, early days of television, commercials were longer, and they were live! Aside from some really bad lighting, there was ample opportunity for things to go terribly wrong 😀 which makes for entertaining viewing today. For example, this Westinghouse commercial for the new frost-free refrigerator. The poor woman tries and tries again to open the door in order to demonstrate the simple convenience of this new technology, but her delicate, ladylike fingers just cannot seem to wrestle the latch open –
Lucky for her, someone behind the cameras comes to her rescue. Here’s another live television commercial, also for Westinghouse – the 1956, hi-tech refrigerator/freezer with a convenient crisper built right into the backside of the door. I actually want one of these!
And, last, here we have a current-day video which gives us a close-up look at an old, 1948 General Electric Fridge. It appears to be in remarkable condition 😀
What are your memories of an old refrigerator in your past?
